Mikel Arteta praised his team’s composure after Arsenal defeated Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, winning on penalties.

Arsenal appeared to be heading for victory when Maxence Lacroix scored an own goal late in the match. However, Palace equalized in the 95th minute through Marc Guehi, sending the game into extra time.

Neither team scored during the additional 30 minutes, leading to a penalty shootout. Arsenal won 8-7, with Lacroix’s attempt saved by Kepa Arrizabalaga.

“I’m very happy. We’re in the semi-final, it’s where we wanted to be,” he said.

“I’m really happy considering the number of changes we made – the cohesion, energy, and quality the team showed against a well-organized side that concedes few chances.”

“We created many opportunities, and we should have had a bigger lead after 94 minutes. When that doesn’t happen, other teams can capitalize on set pieces, which we saw when they scored.

“It was emotionally difficult to accept, but we remained calm and showed great composure in the penalty shootout. I’m also happy for Kepa, who made the decisive save to help us progress.”
