Paul Pogba’s effort to revive his career in Ligue 1 has required some patience.
After an 18-month doping ban, the former Manchester United midfielder signed a two-year deal with Monaco last summer, receiving a warm welcome from fans.
However, his time on the field has been limited since the start.
This season, Pogba has played only three Ligue 1 matches, totaling just 30 minutes, with his last game occurring in December.
Currently, Pogba is out with a calf injury and will miss Monaco’s upcoming match against Lorient on Friday.
The situation at Monaco adds to the pressure. The team is currently ninth in Ligue 1, having lost six of their last seven matches, and they sit at the bottom of their Champions League group.
If Pogba were fit, he could significantly influence their season, but he has not been available often enough.
This led Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro to express concerns during a press conference on Wednesday.
As reported by Goal, Scuro noted that the club’s plan to get Pogba back to full fitness “is not working as we expected in the beginning.”
He elaborated on the issue, stating: “Clearly, the programme for Paul is not working as we expected. We are working hard to find solutions for him.”
Scuro added: “He is personally affected. The plan continues to change based on the challenges we encounter.”
“A few minor injuries in various areas are complicating the process. We continue to work to meet the commitment we made when he joined in the summer.”
Regarding the possibility of Pogba leaving Monaco at the end of the season, Scuro said, “There are many aspects of Paul’s contract that are different from what people think.”
He further explained: “I don’t think it’s useful to reveal specific details. Our relationship is straightforward. We must continue with the plan, even if it has extended.”
“There are two outcomes: either this works well, and he returns to the field soon and has an impact, or if it doesn’t work, we can sit down in the summer to discuss our next steps.”
“Now is not the time to talk about that, as we are focused on finding a solution.”
