Ashley Cole has started his first senior managerial position after signing with Cesena FC.

The former Arsenal and Chelsea defender has signed a short-term contract with the Serie B club until the end of the current season, with an option to extend if certain goals are achieved.

“Cesena FC announces that it has appointed Ashley Cole as head coach of the first team. The new coach of the Bianconeri has signed a contract through June 30, 2026, with a chance to renew based on specific conditions.”

The club also announced Cole’s coaching staff, which includes former Chelsea academy coach Jack Mesure as the assistant manager.

“The coaching staff supporting Head Coach Ashley Cole will consist of: Jack Mesure (assistant coach), Giorgio D’Urbano (athletic trainer), Paolo Stringara (technical staff member), Nicola Capellini (technical staff member), and Federico Agliardi (goalkeeper coach).

“The entire Cesena FC family is excited to welcome manager Ashley Cole to lead the Bianconeri first team and wishes him and his staff the best of luck in this new role.”

Since his retirement in 2019, Cole has held various coaching positions to establish himself in the sport. The 45-year-old has worked with Frank Lampard at Derby County, Chelsea, and Everton, as well as alongside Lee Carsley with the England U-21 and senior teams. He also spent time under Wayne Rooney at Birmingham City.

Cesena is currently in eighth place in Serie B, despite a seven-match winless streak across all competitions.
