Aston Villa has reached an agreement with AS Roma for Donyell Malen to join the Italian club on loan.
Malen is set to travel to Rome today to finalize the loan deal with the Serie A club. The Dutch player moved to Aston Villa from Borussia Dortmund last January but has only made six Premier League starts.
The loan will initially cost Roma £2 million, with a mandatory purchase option of £25 million included.
Roma’s interest in Malen comes after they missed out on Giacomo Raspadori, who opted to return to Atalanta from Atletico Madrid.
Malen’s arrival will strengthen a Roma team that is still competing for the Scudetto. They currently sit fifth in the league, just four points behind leaders Inter Milan.

In addition, Aston Villa is looking to strengthen their squad this month. Brian Madjo has joined from Metz for around £10 million, and there’s interest in bringing back former loanee Tammy Abraham.
The club is also in the market for a midfielder after losing out to Tottenham in the pursuit of Conor Gallagher.
