Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has stated that the club will be active in the January transfer window to support their goals this season.

Villa moved up to second place in the Premier League after a 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

John McGinn scored twice for Villa, adding to an opening goal from Ollie Watkins at Villa Park. This marked their 12th win in 13 matches across all competitions, a strong comeback after their midweek loss to Arsenal.

The win allowed Villa to surpass Manchester City in the table and come within three points of leaders Arsenal. Emery’s team is now 12 points clear of fifth-placed Chelsea in the race for Champions League qualification.

Securing a top-four finish appears within reach for Villa, with hopes of winning their first league title since 1981.

Last season, Villa strengthened their squad in January by signing Donyell Malen and bringing in loanees Marcus Rashford, Marco Asensio, and Axel Disasi. After the game, Emery confirmed that the club plans to make improvements again this January.

“The players we have are crucial. But we always look to be competitive in the transfer market,” he told Sky Sports.

Regarding the win over Forest, Emery commended his team’s response to the recent defeat and mentioned that a team meeting took place after the loss at Arsenal.

“I am very pleased. We needed to regain our energy and confidence. The spirit we create at Villa Park is essential.

“Forest is a tough opponent. After the Arsenal match, we discussed our performance this season and how we must maintain our consistency and unity.”
