Athletic has shared the reasons for the unsuccessful registration of defender Aymeric Laporte.
Details: The club reported that FIFA turned down the Spanish Football Federation’s (RFEF) request for an exceptional transfer certificate. The agreement among Athletic, Al-Nassr, and the defender was finalized on September 1, the last day of the transfer window.
The Bilbao club submitted the necessary documents into the FIFA TMS system but could not complete the process “due to external factors beyond its control.”
The RFEF attempted to address the issue by asking the Saudi Football Federation for an international transfer certificate to register Laporte in La Liga. However, on Wednesday, September 3, FIFA informed Athletic that the document would not be issued.
In spite of this challenge, Athletic is still looking for a way to satisfy everyone involved.
Reminder: Previously, the club’s management indicated that they would pursue all options, including a potential appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
