Atletico Madrid sporting director Carlos Busero has denied reports that his club have received an offer from Liverpool for striker Julian Alvarez.
“The talk of Liverpool making an official offer for Julian Alvarez is not true. What is circulating is just a rumour,” Carlos Busero was quoted as saying by the Mirror on Wednesday.
Atletico Madrid have no intention of selling the Argentina international, who is an integral part of coach Diego Simeone’s project.
“Alvarez is a key player in our project and we have no intention of letting him go. The player himself is not paying attention to these rumours,” Busero said.
Alvarez himself only joined Atletico this season after being signed from Manchester City for a club-record fee of 95 million euros. He decided to leave because he felt he was being used more as a substitute for Erling Haaland.
So far, Alvarez has lived up to expectations with 23 goals in 44 appearances for Atletico. Los Rojiblancos are still in with a chance of winning the La Liga and Copa del Rey titles at the end of the season.
Liverpool are rumoured to be looking for a new striker this summer, with Darwin Nunez set to leave at the end of the season. The Uruguayan striker has failed to live up to expectations, scoring just seven goals in all competitions this season.
