Atletico Madrid is looking to sign Joao Gomes from Wolves as they search for a replacement for Conor Gallagher.
Gallagher transferred to Tottenham Hotspur for €40 million on Wednesday, after having limited opportunities to play regularly under Diego Simeone this season.
The England player has returned to the Premier League after starting only four La Liga games in the early part of the season.
Atletico is now considering Gomes as a potential replacement, according to reports from Marca. The Spanish club hopes that Wolves’ difficult position in the Premier League will help them in their pursuit of Gomes.
Wolves are currently at the bottom of the Premier League and are 14 points away from safety, making relegation likely unless they experience a significant turnaround.
Despite their struggles, Wolves are willing to keep Gomes at the club until the end of the season unless they receive offers exceeding £40 million.
The 24-year-old is sixth in the Premier League for tackles won and is seen as a strong candidate to fill Gallagher’s role in the Atletico midfield.
