Atletico Madrid is currently in third place in La Liga. While many do not see them as serious title contenders, they could move closer to the top if Barcelona faces injuries or Real Madrid underperforms.
Since their 2020/21 title win, fueled by Luis Suarez, Atletico has mostly been on the sidelines regarding major title discussions. Recently, they have increased their spending in the transfer market.
This has led to Atletico needing to sell players who are either underperforming or are no longer needed in the squad. One player leaving is Javi Galan, who had strong performances as a fullback with Celta Vigo and contributed for Atleti over the last few seasons.
However, this season, Galan has only started one match in La Liga for Atletico, and when he did play, he did not perform at a satisfactory level.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Atletico Madrid has reached an agreement to sell Javi Galan to Osasuna for a low fee of 500,000 euros.
This is a surprisingly low amount given Galan’s background as a skilled left back and midfielder at Celta Vigo, making this a good deal for Osasuna.
Atletico could receive more money depending on Galan’s performance. For each season he spends at Osasuna, Atletico will get an extra 500,000 euros.
Since they were not planning to use Galan, any return is beneficial for them. For Osasuna, if Galan performs well, the investment of 500,000 euros per season is worthwhile.
