According to DEPORTV, Atlético Madrid has signed Nicolás González on loan from Juventus. The 27-year-old Argentine forward, who has played 43 times for the national team and scored six goals, joins in a deal worth an initial €1 million. The agreement includes a €35 million option to buy, which could become mandatory based on his playing time, allowing him to stay with the Spanish club until 2030.
This move required González to accept a pay cut so that Atlético could comply with LaLiga’s financial regulations. This adjustment was essential because the club was very close to its spending limit and needed league approval to complete the transfer.
Diego Simeone had been looking for a fast and creative winger for the left side, and González fits the bill. His ability to play as both a wide forward and a wing-back offers tactical options, giving Simeone more flexibility in challenging matches.
González started his career at Argentinos Juniors before playing for Stuttgart and then Fiorentina, where his performances caught Juventus’s attention, leading to his signing in 2023. His time in Turin was mixed, but his experience in Serie A and with the national team brings added value to his arrival in LaLiga.
For Atlético, this signing comes at a key moment as the club seeks to remain competitive in both LaLiga and the Champions League. Both the fans and management hope González can quickly adjust and become an important player in Simeone’s setup.
