Atlético Nacional is facing a significant penalty after using four foreign players simultaneously during their loss to Atlético Bucaramanga at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium. Head coach Javier Gandolfi acknowledged the error in the post-match press conference, noting that the club could be subjected to a 3-0 forfeit and a financial fine according to Liga BetPlay rules.

The match itself was already challenging for Nacional, with goalkeeper Aldair Quintana standing out for Bucaramanga. Carlos Henao’s goal helped the visitors secure the win, despite Félix Charrupí receiving a red card. However, the key issue arose off the field when Facundo Batista and Billy Arce were brought on while Camilo Cándido and Juan Bauzá were still playing, resulting in four foreign players being on the field for three minutes.

League regulations are clear: Article 34 allows only three foreign players to be on the field at the same time, and Article 83 of the disciplinary code mandates an automatic 3-0 defeat and a fine for violations. Gandolfi accepted his accountability, saying: “There are no excuses; I didn’t realize we already had three foreigners on the pitch.”

Bucaramanga’s coach Leonel Álvarez stated that the club will seek action through official channels. “This is determined by goals, and we have to take advantage. If we can add two more on paper, it’s beneficial for us,” he said. The outcome could affect the standings, where goal difference often plays a crucial role in playoff qualifications.
