Jannik Sinner is aiming for history at the Australian Open, looking to achieve a three-peat. He won his first Grand Slam title there in 2024 by defeating 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev. This year, he defended his title against Alexander Zverev.
Former doubles world No.1 Todd Woodbridge believes Sinner is the favorite to win next year’s Australian Open, rather than Carlos Alcaraz. Woodbridge suggests that Alcaraz may struggle to focus on major tournaments after recently ending his partnership with coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, which lasted seven years.
I think it’s going to be very challenging for Carlos to win a Major next year. He has the talent, but this change at such a pivotal point in his career is surprising. They were one of the best coaching duos in the sport.

Alcaraz has never made it to the semifinals at the Australian Open, reaching the quarterfinals in 2024 and 2025. He was eliminated in four sets by Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic in those years.
When Juan Carlos hasn’t been present, Alcaraz doesn’t perform at his best, and you can see him looking towards the crowd, uncertain. It may take time for him to adjust. In the meantime, Jannik may have the advantage to claim the three-peat.
Since the 2024 season, Sinner and Alcaraz have traded Grand Slam titles. This year, Sinner reached the finals of all four Majors, winning at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, while losing the French Open and US Open to a six-time Grand Slam champion.
On the Served podcast, Andy Roddick discussed the top 20 players. Regarding World No.20 Tommy Paul, Roddick expressed his hope for Paul to perform consistently and remain injury-free. He pointed out that there’s one part of the game where Paul outshines everyone except Carlos Alcaraz.
