Austin FC has signed winger Jayden Nelson from the Vancouver Whitecaps for $1.25 million in general allocation money and a first-round draft pick in 2026.

The Whitecaps will receive $700,000 in 2026 and $550,000 in 2027. They will also keep a percentage of any future trade or transfer fees for the 23-year-old player. The draft pick is the 17th overall selection.

In his only season with the Whitecaps in 2025, Nelson scored three goals and provided 11 assists in 40 matches. He contributed to the team’s Canadian Championship win and their run to the MLS Cup final.

Vancouver’s sporting director Axel Schuster expressed gratitude for Nelson’s contributions, stating, “We are thankful to Jayden for his time at the club. He was vital to our successful season, and we wish him all the best in his future.” Schuster added that the move allows Nelson a chance for more playing time as he aims to compete in the World Cup at home.

Originally from Ontario, Nelson developed in the Toronto FC academy and played 45 MLS games (29 starts) for Toronto from 2020 to 2022, scoring one goal and making three assists.

On the international stage, he has netted two goals in 11 appearances for Canada as he targets a place on the roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Nelson will hold senior and international roster spots with Austin FC.
