Nigeria’s national team faces a setback before their important 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa. Victor Osimhen, the Galatasaray striker and key player for the Super Eagles, will miss the match on Tuesday in Bloemfontein, as reported by Allnigeriasoccer.
He sustained an injury during the first half of their recent game against Rwanda, which ended 1-0. There were hopes he would recover for the match against South Africa, but his absence was confirmed on Sunday.
The team doctor stated that the 26-year-old forward experienced significant discomfort in the morning, leading to the decision to leave him out of the squad heading to South Africa.
Nigeria is currently third in their group with 10 points, six points behind leaders South Africa. If Bafana Bafana wins against Nigeria and Benin loses to Lesotho, they would secure World Cup qualification for the first time since 2010.
