Mbekezeli Mbokazi’s impressive goal against Panama for Bafana Bafana came from instinct rather than extensive practice.
The powerful shot he scored at Cape Town Stadium, though Bafana lost 2-1 in the friendly, was seen by many as a product of diligent training.
However, the Chicago Fire defender explained that he does not spend much time refining his shooting, noting this goal was not the first of its kind from his strong left foot.
In the Betway Premiership, he has scored similar goals, including one against Siwelele FC and another in the Nedbank Cup for his former club Orlando Pirates against SuperSport United.
“No, I wouldn’t say I practice them often,” Mbokazi told SABC Sport after the match against Panama.
“Sometimes, I just hit them, even in training.
“So I won’t claim I practice them a lot. When the moment strikes, I love to take a shot at the goal.”
His team, Chicago Fire, will be looking for more of such strikes as they face Nashville SC this weekend.
