There are reports that Bangladesh may leave the SAFF (South Asian Football Federation). The main reason for this is the meeting held by the Bangladesh President with Thai representatives. It is estimated that joining the ASEAN ( Association of Southeast Asian Nations) will bring great benefits to the Bangladesh football team.
By becoming a member of ASEAN, Bangladesh will get the opportunity to participate in their club level competitions and national team competitions. This will help raise the standard of the players and gain more competitive experience. ASEAN members include strong football countries like Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Competing with them will be a great asset for the Bangladesh team.
Meanwhile, India’s Memorandum of Understanding with Saudi Arabia and the Central Asian Football Association have not made much progress. Many are questioning what India has gained from these MoUs. There is criticism of these moves, which have not yet yielded any tangible results.
It remains to be seen whether Bangladesh’s move will usher in a new era in South Asian football. Fans are hoping that Bangladesh’s decision to leave SAF and join ASEAN will open new doors for football.
