The topic of Lionel Messi’s return to Barcelona continues to generate buzz. The Argentine star ignited excitement among fans during a recent visit to his former stadium. In response, Joan Laporta confirmed that the club is considering building a statue to honor the greatest player in its history. During the “Barça: History and Future” forum hosted by La Vanguardia, the president of Barcelona revealed that the club’s executives have discussed the possibility of renaming the iconic Camp Nou to Lionel Messi Stadium.
“People understand each other through conversation. In Leo Messi’s case, we plan to pay him the highest tribute possible when the time is right, including erecting a statue. The tribute would be even more spectacular with a full stadium of 105,000 fans. He has been the greatest player, perhaps, in the history of football and Barcelona. However, I avoid controversies and speculation about unrealistic scenarios. He has a contract with another club. We discussed within the board the possibility of naming the stadium after him, but we deemed it inappropriate, as names are typically given to those who are no longer with us,” he stated.
