Bayelsa United Football Club has given its players and coaching staff a two-match deadline due to recent poor results in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The team has secured just one victory in their last seven NPFL matches. Chairman Tarilaye Nwankwe expressed his dissatisfaction during an emergency meeting with the team in Yenagoa.
Nwankwe stated that the ultimatum takes effect immediately, beginning with their away game against Warri Wolves this weekend and the home match against Plateau United on October 31, 2025.
“The Bayelsa State Government has invested significantly in this club,” Nwankwe said. “Unfortunately, the results on the pitch haven’t met expectations. We need change—team performance must reflect the support and resources we’ve been given.”
Nwankwe stressed that this directive is not aimed at any individual but is meant to realign the team with the club’s long-term goals.
“This is not a witch-hunt,” he clarified. “It’s a genuine effort to align everyone—from players to coaches—with our vision of making Bayelsa United one of Nigeria’s top football clubs.”
Currently, Bayelsa United is struggling, sitting at 13th place on the league table with 11 points from nine matches. The upcoming games against Warri Wolves and Plateau United are critical, as they not only affect league standings but also the future of the team’s technical staff and overall unity.
