Bayern & Barca Battle for Bundesliga Wing-Back

Footem.inBayern Munich is facing competition from Barcelona for the signature of Bundesliga‘s experienced left-back.

Alejandro Grimaldo is once again attracting significant attention in Spain, with this time the rumors appearing stronger than ever before.

MARCA reports that the Spanish left-back is firmly on Barca’s radar, although Bayern Munich appears to be intensifying the competition for the player.

According to MARCA, interest has also emerged from abroad, specifically from Bayern Munich.

However, Grimaldo himself would ‘prioritize a return to Spain’ should the decisive moment arrive.

Barcelona Has an Edge

This development comes at a complicated time for Barcelona. The club is monitoring Alejandro Balde’s performance this season, and while his potential is undeniable, the coaching staff isn’t entirely convinced by Balde’s level of play in recent months.

Barca is reportedly ‘monitoring Grimaldo’s situation’, although they haven’t made any formal approach yet.

Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen is well aware of the interest from these two top clubs in their key player.

However, Leverkusen ‘doesn’t want one of their best players to move to Bayern Munich’, leading them to shift their focus and potentially return to La Liga.

Crucially, the relationship between Leverkusen and the player is described as very healthy. “If Grimaldo knocks on the door and says he wants to return to Spain, both parties won’t hinder the transfer,” Leverkusen has stated.

This is a significant detail, especially for Barcelona, which faces a challenging situation regarding squad depth at the left-back position.

Barcelona Needs a Left-Back

Beyond Balde, Barcelona lacks reliable alternatives in that position.

Gerard Martin has shown potential and solid performances when needed, but he hasn’t demonstrated the long-term competitiveness required to genuinely challenge Balde for a starting spot.

Therefore, the club has intensified its search for a natural left-back who can offer immediate reliability, tactical maturity, and genuine competition.

Grimaldo fits that profile perfectly, as he is experienced, consistent, intelligent, and well-adapted to top-level European football.
