Bayern Mulls Alaba’s Return: Doors Open for Reunion?

Footem.inBayern Munich has stirred the pot by mentioning the possible return of Real Madrid defender David Alaba. The player has been sidelined for quite some time due to an injury.

David Alaba’s time at Real Madrid appears to be limited. The Austrian international’s contract with the club expires at the end of the season, and there are no clear plans for an extension.

Real Madrid has reportedly been looking to offload Alaba, who has struggled with injuries in recent years.

While he remains a respected figure in the Madrid locker room, his impact on the field has diminished.

Amidst rumors of a potential move to Saudi Arabia, Bayern Munich’s Sporting Director, Christoph Freund, recently discussed the possibility of Alaba returning to Bavaria.

Freund’s Comments on Alaba

Speaking to Sky Sports, Freund praised Alaba and his role with the Austrian national team, both as a leader on the field and as an assistant coach.

“Even off the pitch, he’s a very good player and does a lot of integration work inside and outside the pitch. He is always involved, including at the European Championship, supporting the team from the bench,” Freund said.

“He is an important point of contact for the coach, for this team, for the captain. Currently, as a playing assistant coach, he is a very important factor,” he added.

China’s Key Role

Alaba, originally from Vienna, spent 13 years at Bayern Munich before joining Real Madrid in 2021.

During his time in Bavaria, Alaba played a vital role in helping the team maintain its dominance in the Bundesliga and win two Champions League titles.

However, Freund admitted that Bayern currently has no plans to bring Alaba back, despite the urgent need to strengthen their defense.

“There are no plans yet. However, he significantly shaped FC Bayern during his time here. He is a great and intelligent young man who will also find a good path after his playing career.”

“However, he still wants to play football for a while and participate in the World Cup with Austria,” he said.

Interestingly, Real Madrid has been linked with a move for Bayern’s star defender, Dayot Upamecano, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

If Upamecano leaves to join “Real Madrid next season” next summer, it will be interesting to see if Bayern opens the door for Alaba to return to Bavaria.
