In 2022, Bayern Munich was very close to signing Lamine Yamal, a promising young player from Barcelona.
Details: The recent book by Bild’s Christian Falk, titled Transfer-Insider, reveals that Bayern Munich almost signed Yamal last year. Club officials Hasan Salihamidžić and Marco Neppe even met with Yamal’s agent, Ivan de la Peña, to discuss the potential transfer.
Sources indicate that talks were going well, with Bayern planning to meet Yamal’s family to express their interest. However, the situation changed when Yamal decided to switch agents. He started working with renowned agent Jorge Mendes, who indicated that a transfer would require a substantial payment to Yamal’s family.
Ultimately, Bayern chose not to take the risk on such a young player. Time was not on their side: Yamal soon became a part of Barcelona’s first team, won the Spanish championship, and at just 16, signed a contract that included a release clause of €1 billion. Now, transferring to another club seems unlikely, leaving Bayern to reflect on the missed opportunity.
Reminder: Kane addressed Owen’s comments about his transfer to Bayern.
