Bernardo Silva stated that Manchester City observed Arsenal lose momentum during the Carabao Cup final after a strong start.
City faced early pressure from Arsenal at Wembley but eventually won 2-0 to secure the trophy. Arsenal missed a key chance in the first half when Kai Havertz’s shot was saved by James Trafford, who made an impressive triple save.
After a tight first half, City took control in the second half. Nico O’Reilly scored two headed goals, the first benefiting from a mistake by Arsenal goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, helping City clinch their ninth League Cup title.
In an interview with Sky Sports after the match, Silva noted that City sensed Arsenal losing their energy.
“The first 15 minutes were tough; they created a big chance, and James Trafford was fantastic for us. In the second half, we felt they lost some energy, and we needed to push harder,” he said.
“Nico O’Reilly is great at getting into those moments in the box. We were fortunate to score the first goal, and when we dominate, we can find the openings.”
“In a final, both teams will have their moments. Arsenal had theirs in the first 10 or 15 minutes. During these times, we work together to minimize their impact. We also have the ability to put pressure on them.”
“Winning the first trophy for the new players eases some pressure and creates a positive feeling that we want to repeat.”
