The FIFA Club World Cup has produced unforgettable results in past editions, including lopsided victories and stunning defeats.

The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 is drawing global attention, with fans eager to see their favorite players take part in a prestigious tournament featuring top clubs from each continental confederation. Below, we take a look back at the most lopsided scorelines in previous editions of the Club World Cup.

The tournament’s inaugural edition was held in 2000, hosted by Brazil. That year, Corinthians—then reigning Brazilian league champions and the host nation’s representative—claimed the title. The competition wasn’t held for the next four years, but it returned in 2005 and has since become a fixture, replacing the Intercontinental Cup.

Since then, there have been 20 editions of the Club World Cup, with European teams dominating the tournament. UEFA Champions League winners have claimed the title 16 times, with Real Madrid holding the record with four trophies. The remaining four titles were won by Brazilian clubs.

The most lopsided result in tournament history was a 6-1 win by Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia over Al Jazira of the United Arab Emirates in the second round of the 2021 edition. The second-biggest margin came in 2019, when Esperance of Tunisia defeated Al Sadd of Qatar 6-2 in the fifth-place match. Rounding out the top three was Monterrey’s 5-1 victory over Al Ahly of Egypt in the 2013 fifth-place match.

Among decisive matches, the largest margin of victory has been 4-0, and it’s occurred twice. The first was in 2011, when Lionel Messi’s Barcelona beat Neymar’s Santos by that score in the final. The second was in 2023, the last edition before the tournament format was expanded, when Manchester City defeated Fluminense.
