Boca Coach Miguel Ángel Russo Admitted to Hospital Due to Infection

Boca Juniors head coach Miguel Ángel Russo spent the night in a Buenos Aires hospital due to a urinary infection, Clarín reported. The 69-year-old manager, who has shown signs of tiredness in recent days, was admitted to Instituto Fleni in Belgrano after further medical tests.

Initial tests last week had cleared him of any major issues, but subsequent examinations confirmed the infection. Doctors decided to keep him for observation in a general ward and provided intravenous antibiotics. He is expected to stay at the facility for about 24 hours before going home.

Although he wanted to return home, he followed the medical team’s advice. Boca’s training session scheduled for Wednesday afternoon was managed by his assistant, Claudio Úbeda, in Russo’s absence.

Concerns about Russo’s health arose several days earlier. After Boca’s victory over Aldosivi in Mar del Plata, former assistant coach Hugo Gottardi pointed out that Russo looked “very tired,” emphasizing the pressure of his role. He mentioned that while the coach is generally well, the demands of the job have taken a toll.

Having previously overcome a serious illness, Russo is reported to be in stable condition and is expected to return to the team soon once he receives medical clearance.
