In an interview with Muy Independ

In an interview with Muy Independiente, Ricardo Enrique Bochini expressed his concerns about the challenges facing the club. As one of Independiente’s greatest icons, he shared his disappointment over the team’s performance under Julio Vaccari, highlighting the impact of Conmebol’s sanctions and the decline in play quality.

“Independiente fans appreciate good football; they are not violent. The remaining 45 minutes against Universidad de Chile should have been played. The real victims are the players. If there were security issues, the match shouldn’t have started,” Bochini stated regarding the decision that led to the team’s exit from the Sudamericana, which also resulted in a $250,000 fine and several matches being played behind closed doors.

On the performance front, he emphasized: “There are three home games left to win. If they can get into the top 8 and fight until the end, it would change everything. Playing at Independiente means they should be competing for a title.” He noted specific issues: “The team lacks the rhythm seen last semester. They’re conceding more defensively and struggle to create attacks. They might need another striker or a midfielder to generate more chances.”

Bochini pointed out Luciano Cabral’s dip in form and offered suggestions: “Vaccari needs to choose whether Cabral plays from the start or as a substitute. I don’t understand why Millán plays so little; I liked what I saw from him.” He also encouraged the use of younger players: “At 17, many kids have already played. Maybe Vaccari doesn’t think Parmo is ready yet, but I see potential in him; he should at least be on the bench to gain experience.”

Finally, Bochini expressed his desire to support the team: “I’d like to visit the training ground this week to support Vaccari and the players, just like last semester. They need encouragement to get back to winning.” Independiente will face a crucial match against Banfield on Saturday, providing an opportunity to revitalize their Clausura campaign.
