Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt will meet in the Bundesliga on Friday, opening their 2026 season.
Dortmund ended 2025 with a strong 2-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach on December 19th, their last match of the year.
Currently, they are nine points behind leaders Bayern Munich and are on an eight-match unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga. Their only loss this season was a 1-2 defeat to Bayern.

Dortmund has some squad concerns ahead of the match. First-choice goalkeeper Gregor Kobel had to leave the Marbella training camp due to illness, putting his participation for Friday in doubt. If Kobel cannot play, reserve keeper Alexander Meyer will step in, though he hasn’t played since November 11th.
Defender Aaron Anselmino is nearing recovery, and coach Niko Kovac hopes he will be available by the weekend, along with Waldemar Anton, who is also back after injury.
Pascal Groß moved to Brighton & Hove Albion on January 5th, but Kovac said there are no plans to find a replacement, stating: “We are well set up with Jobe, Felix, Sabi, and Salih. We won’t be doing anything more in this position.”
