Bournemouth vs Man City, Guardiola Eyes 7th FA Cup Semifinal

The quarter-finals of the 2024/2025 FA Cup will feature Bournemouth vs Man City. The game will be played at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday (30/03/2025).

Manchester City manager Josep Guardiola has set his sights on a seventh successive FA Cup semi-final appearance.

“Reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup seven times in a row is our target. After that, the focus will be on the Champions League next season,” Guardiola was quoted as saying by Manchester City’s official website on Saturday (29/03/2025).

“We have to beat Bournemouth first and then prepare for Leicester City in the Premier League,” added the coach, known as Pep.

Previously, in the 2023/2024 season, Manchester City reached the FA Cup semi-finals for a record sixth successive season. The Citizens reached the final before losing 2-1 to Manchester United.

“We have to take the FA Cup seriously, like when we won the League Cup four times in a row (2017/18 to 2018/19). To reach the semi-finals at Wembley would be incredible,” said Guardiola.

Guardiola admits Bournemouth v Man City will not be easy. Bournemouth, now coached by Andoni Iraola, are looking to make history by qualifying for the final for the first time.

“It shows how good they are. We see the Premier League games every week. They have shown their quality again in the FA Cup,” said the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach.

Of the eight teams that have reached the quarter-finals of the 2024/25 FA Cup, only four have lifted the trophy. They are Manchester City (seven times), Nottingham Forest (1959), Aston Villa (1957) and Preston North End (1938). City last won the FA Cup, the world’s oldest football competition, in the 2022/23 season.

Bournemouth currently sit 10th in the 2024/2025 Premier League table with 44 points, just four points behind fifth-placed Manchester City. In the Bournemouth vs. Man City match in the Premier League this season, Bournemouth won 2-1.
