Brad Guzan is optimistic about the United States men’s national soccer team (USMNT) making an impact in the 2026 World Cup. Recently, he shared his thoughts during a World Cup Final Draw viewing party in Atlanta, discussing what advice he has for the team as they prepare for the tournament, set to take place in North America this summer.
“The best advice I would give them, especially for a tournament like the World Cup in our backyard, is to enjoy it,” Guzan said. “I still cherish the memories and relationships I built during my playing days. Having the tournament here is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and they should soak it all in and realize that the whole country is cheering for them.”
This year’s World Cup will be held across various cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This marks the first time three countries will co-host the tournament, and it’s the first instance of the U.S. hosting since 1994, where the team exited in the Round of 16 against Brazil.
Insights on Brad Guzan and the World Cup
The USMNT has had a varied history in the World Cup, with their best finish being third place in 1930. They reached the Round of 16 in 2022, a step up from not qualifying in 2018.
Guzan played as a goalkeeper for the USMNT from 2006 to 2021. He did not participate in the 2010 World Cup, serving as a backup for Tim Howard, but played in the 2014 World Cup, helping the team into the Round of 16.
In addition to his international career, Guzan is well-known in Major League Soccer. The 41-year-old was named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2007, earned All-Star selections in 2018 and 2019, and played a key role in helping Atlanta United secure the MLS Cup in 2018.
