L’Olympique Lyonnais is gearing up for a significant move in the transfer market. Although the transfer window hasn’t opened yet, Lyon is close to securing a major deal. For weeks, the club has been negotiating with Real Madrid for a loan deal involving young talent Endrick, as previously reported. Frustrated with limited playing time at Madrid, the 19-year-old is eager to get back on the field and improve his chances of participating in the 2026 World Cup.
Lyon has quickly become Endrick’s top choice, being the only club that can promise him a starting role as a number 9 and European competition participation (UEFA Europa League). His discussions with coach Paulo Fonseca have been positive, and the success of many Brazilian players at Lyon has further influenced his decision. It seems everything is in place to attract the 19-year-old player, who knows that performing well could secure him a spot in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the upcoming World Cup. This morning, the Brazilian national team coach also reached out to him through the media.
“Yes, I spoke to him at the start of the season. He was injured, but now he’s doing well and back. He should think with his team about what’s best for him and discuss with the club. Endrick is very young; this won’t be his last World Cup. He has the qualities to play in 2026, but he could also be present in 2030, 2034, and even 2038 (laughs). It’s important for him to get back on the field and showcase his talents.”
Unless circumstances change, Lyon in France is where he will take the field. According to a report by Globo Esporte, Endrick’s arrival is just a matter of time. Lyon and Real Madrid have entered the final stage of negotiations this week during several meetings. The Spanish club has agreed to let the player go on loan this winter, and he is expected to stay in Lyon for six months. Lyon’s management is already proposing terms to expedite the administrative process for the contract, which should be signed by the end of 2025, ahead of the winter transfer window.
Regarding the specifics of this deal, GE mentions that they are confidential. However, it is noted that Real Madrid, which has already given its verbal agreement, does not want to include a purchase option. To protect themselves, as the transfer window is still distant, the Merengues are likely to include clauses that would allow them to retain Endrick or bring him back in case of an injury to an attacker in Xabi Alonso’s squad. Nevertheless, Endrick is already focused on his move to Lyon, as his family is currently searching for a house in the French city.
