Bruno Fernandes has been a key player for Manchester United since joining the club after Sir Alex Ferguson’s era. He has been given the responsibility of captain.
Last season, the Portugal international was the team’s top scorer and provided the most assists, helping the club avoid relegation.
This season, Fernandes has taken on a central-midfield role but remains central to the team’s efforts.
So far, he has scored five goals and made seven assists in 17 games, bringing his total to 103 goals, 93 assists, and 307 appearances for United since his arrival in 2019.
However, the 31-year-old’s future at Old Trafford might be uncertain after some recent comments in interviews.
Fernandes mentioned his desire to play in Spain and Italy but expressed a wish to stay at Manchester United for as long as the club wants him.
In a recent interview with Rio Ferdinand on YouTube, he shared his reasons for wanting to remain at United, revealing he turned down two offers to leave.
He stated, “When I came to the club, I loved being here, and I think my loyalty showed during tough times when I could have left.”
He added, “The club needed me, and I felt I owed them something in return.”
“While I wish I could have won more trophies, I believe my contributions have been significant.”
“During the club’s toughest times, I stayed, and I hope everyone recognizes that, especially considering the good opportunities I had to leave.”
“I realize I could have taken a different path and perhaps won more trophies, which might have changed how people view me.”
“Nowadays, people often judge players based on the trophies they win.”
Fernandes received a substantial transfer offer last summer when Al-Hilal proposed £100 million to Manchester United and offered him a £200 million contract.
However, he chose to stay at Old Trafford, wanting to assist Ruben Amorim in rebuilding the club.
