Bayer Leverkusen drew 3-3 with 10-man Werder Bremen on Saturday, missing out on new coach Erik ten Hag’s first league win.
Leverkusen led 3-1 and had a player advantage after Patrik Schick scored a Panenka penalty in the second half. Bremen’s Niklas Stark received a second yellow card for the foul that led to the penalty.
However, Leverkusen’s goalkeeper Mark Flekken misjudged a long ball, allowing Isaac Schmidt to score easily.
Bremen continued to push forward and equalized in the fourth minute of stoppage time, with Karim Coulibaly volleying in after the ball hit the crossbar.
At 18 years old, Coulibaly became Bremen’s youngest goalscorer in Bundesliga history.
Leverkusen had taken a 2-0 lead in the first half, with Schick scoring in the fifth minute and debutant Malik Tillman adding another in the 35th minute.
Bremen was awarded a controversial penalty just before half-time, which Romano Schmidt converted, setting the stage for the drama in the second half.
