During their time together, Alcaraz secured six Grand Slam titles.

Rick Macci responds to Alcaraz’s coaching split

Alcaraz has had Ferrero as his only coach, leading to questions about his future direction at age 22.

Rick Macci, known for coaching top players like Serena and Venus Williams, shared his thoughts on social media.

He expressed support for Alcaraz’s choice, stating that it was essential because it was Alcaraz’s decision.

Macci commented on X (formerly Twitter), “He made the right decision because it was his decision. The past success was an amazing win/win.”

Macci discusses coaching Alcaraz

Macci has also coached other tennis stars like Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick.

He remarked that coaching Alcaraz requires allowing him the freedom to play creatively.

“Coaching someone like Carlos cuts both ways,” said Macci. “You have to let him use his imagination while being careful not to discourage him for taking risks.”

Macci noted, “Many were surprised by Alcaraz’s decision to change coaches. Reaching number one and parting ways after seven years with the main coach is significant but should not be shocking. He wants more independence in his coaching choices.”

Even though Alcaraz is no longer with Ferrero, he still has Samuel Lopez on his coaching team.

Lopez is set to lead Alcaraz at the Australian Open, as Alcaraz looks for a replacement for Ferrero.
