Manchester United is undergoing another significant change in its coaching staff, as Ruben Amorim, Carlos Fernandes, and their team have been dismissed.
This decision follows Amorim and his coaches’ inability to create a consistent performance at Old Trafford, particularly their commitment to the 3-4-3 formation.
While this system was successful in Portugal with Sporting CP, it hasn’t produced the desired results for Manchester United.
With the end of the 14-month Amorim era, his entire coaching staff has been replaced by former legends of the club.
Darren Fletcher will temporarily take charge until a new caretaker manager is appointed, which is expected to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Joining him are Jonny Evans and Under-21s manager Travis Binnion, who will assist Fletcher in preparing for the upcoming match against Burnley.
As Fletcher assembles his team, Carlos Fernandes, Amorim’s assistant, shared his departure from Old Trafford on Instagram.
Alongside a photo from his time at Manchester United, Fernandes wrote: “Thank you, Manchester United.”
“I appreciate the world-class players I had the privilege to coach and learn from.
“Thank you to the staff who provided genuine support.
“And a thank you to the fans who stood by us.
“Working at such a prestigious football club tests not just your knowledge, but reveals your character.
“This was a special chapter in my life, and I am proud to have served as Assistant Manager.”
Since Fernandes has worked with Amorim since 2018 at several clubs, it is likely he will follow Amorim to his next destination.
A return to Portugal seems possible, as the former United manager is expected to be a candidate for the Benfica role if it becomes available.
