On September 4, Karolina Muchova will compete against Naomi Osaka in the US Open quarterfinals. Here’s a look at what to expect from this match.

Karolina Muchova

The Czech player has been working to regain her top form this season, although she hasn’t always been at her best physically. In her last match, Muchova faced defeat against Kostyuk but fought through pain to secure a win.

Throughout this tournament, she has played three-set matches for all her victories. She started with a win over veteran Venus Williams – 6-3, 2-6, 6-1, followed by a close game against Romania’s Cirstea – 7-6, 6-7, 6-4. She then battled against Noskova – 6-7, 6-4, 6-2, and recently fought hard to beat Kostyuk – 6-3, 6-7, 6-3. Muchova is currently ranked No. 13 in the world.

Naomi Osaka

The Japanese player is having an impressive tournament and looks ready to compete for another title. Osaka has won the US Open twice before and is now ranked 24th globally.

Osaka has shown great confidence in New York. She won against Belgium’s Minnen – 6-3, 6-4 and easily defeated American Baptiste – 6-3, 6-1. Following that, she made a strong comeback to beat Kasatkina – 0-6, 6-4, 6-4. In a match against world No. 3 Coco Gauff, Osaka dominated with a score of 6-3, 6-2. If she continues this form, Osaka is set to re-enter the top 20 by the end of the tournament.

Match facts

  • Muchova has 19 wins in 28 hard court matches this season.
  • Osaka has won 20 of her 26 matches on hard courts.
  • Odds for the upcoming match: Muchova to win – 3.3, Osaka to win – 1.37.

Head-to-head

Osaka currently leads their head-to-head record 3-2, although Muchova withdrew from one meeting before it started.

Prediction

Osaka is favored to win this matchup, but there are questions about Muchova’s ability to perform at her best. Even if Muchova is on her game, Osaka looks to be in better form right now. A bet on Osaka covering a -4 game handicap seems promising.
