Panamanian media reports that Panama’s 1-1 draw against Guatemala at Estadio Rommel Fernández is seen as a significant blow, as the team has yet to win in the final stage of Concacaf World Cup qualifying. Midfielder Adalberto Carrasquilla, who plays for Pumas in Mexico, spoke openly after the match, acknowledging that the players are accountable for the outcome.

“We didn’t want this result, and we didn’t want the previous one either. We understand that teams come in looking to defend well, and sometimes luck just isn’t on our side. We recognize our responsibilities and will be accountable until the end,” the 26-year-old stated.

Carrasquilla noted that Panama has faced challenges in dealing with opponents’ tactics. “The feeling about qualifying is different this time; teams are well-organized, pressuring us and making games difficult,” he said.

However, he emphasized that the team remains determined: “We have a goal, and no one said it would be easy. We have a committed group ready to take responsibility. While it may seem complicated, we still control our destiny.”

He also mentioned that missed chances are a continuing issue. “We’ve created opportunities but haven’t capitalized on them as we should. Still, as I’ve said, there’s a group ready to face this situation until the end.”

With only two points from six, Panama must act quickly to avoid slipping in the qualifying standings. Carrasquilla’s comments reflect both the disappointment of the draw and the resolve to pursue a World Cup spot.
