Manchester United manager Michael Carrick was confused after his team was not given a second penalty in the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on Friday night.

Amad Diallo was pushed down in the penalty area during the second half, but referee Stuart Attwell did not call it. Bournemouth quickly equalized with a goal from Ryan Christie.

James Hill scored an own goal from a corner, giving United the lead again. However, Harry Maguire conceded a penalty ten minutes before the end. He was sent off for bringing down Evanilson in the area, and Eli Junior Kroupi scored the penalty.

Bruno Fernandes had already scored from the spot on the hour mark after being fouled. Carrick believed that the incident involving Amad should have also been a foul, similar to Fernandes’ situation.

“We should have had another penalty,” he told Sky Sports. “If one is given, the other should be too.

“The two situations are almost the same, with a two-hand grab. It’s confusing that one was called and the other was not; it doesn’t make sense.”

“It led to their goal and caused chaos afterwards. That penalty could have changed the game entirely.”

Despite the draw, Manchester United remains in a good position to finish in the top four and qualify for the UEFA Champions League. They are currently third in the table, six points ahead of Liverpool, who play Brighton on Saturday.

“We’re in a good place,” Carrick said. “We earned this position through hard work, good results, and strong performances.

“We could have done better tonight, but it’s not a disaster.”

The interim coach also mentioned the progress his team has made since taking over from Ruben Amorim in January.

“I think we’ve improved. There are still areas to work on and we can grow even more.

“I’m pleased with our progress, but we are not satisfied. We want to achieve more.”
