Manchester United manager Michael Carrick expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance after their 3-1 victory over Aston Villa.

The win marked United’s seventh triumph in nine matches under Carrick, positioning them three points ahead of Aston Villa in the Champions League qualification race.

Casemiro opened the scoring with a header at Old Trafford, but Aston Villa equalized through Ross Barkley, who was making his first Premier League start in over a year.

United did not relent and took the lead again when Matheus Cunha scored from a well-timed pass by Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes also assisted Casemiro’s goal, bringing his total to 16 assists in the Premier League this season, a record for Manchester United. Benjamin Sesko added a late goal after pouncing on a loose ball in the box.

With this victory, Carrick’s team enhanced their chances for Champions League football, raising conversations about his potential for a permanent managerial role.

“I was pretty happy with a lot of things. We looked like a good team,” Carrick said in an interview post-match.

“Credit to them, they had their moments, but overall we were the more dangerous side. It was important to respond well after the previous defeat.”

“Two solid teams played, and while it wasn’t always thrilling, we maintained a good position at halftime and aimed for more. The players performed exceptionally well to finish strong.”

“Winning brings a great feeling, and we want to make it a habit. We’re keeping our focus and understanding what it takes to secure victories like today’s. We’re in a good spot, but there’s still much to do.”
