Michael Carrick shared an important message with his Man Utd players before their important win against Man City at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Lisandro Martinez mentioned that the interim head coach encouraged the team to harness the energy from their home fans to pull off a surprise against their rivals in the Manchester Derby, which they successfully achieved.
The Red Devils controlled the first half, scoring multiple times but having their goals canceled by offside calls.
Bryan Mbeumo finally broke through in the 65th minute, finishing off a fantastic counter-attack. Patrick Dorgu extended the lead just ten minutes later, thrilling the home crowd.

“Unbelievable,” Martinez told Sky Sports. “Being here with the fans and the team, we truly understand the challenges we’ve faced this season. But the key is to step up and show who we are. Today was the perfect time for that. Everyone, not just the players, was involved.
“One crucial point Michael Carrick made was to ‘use the energy of the people,’ and we did that. When we are united like this, it’s tough to lose at home.
“When facing top players, the entire team must defend together. Today, we were compact and confident, ready for every duel. You could feel a different energy from the players. The team won, and that’s what matters most.”
Mbeumo added: “Scoring in front of this crowd is amazing. A derby is special, and like Licha [Martinez] said, we fed off the fans’ energy today. The atmosphere was incredible.”
