A solution is needed.

The ban on multi-ownership within a single UEFA competition often sparks lively discussion. UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin has shared his opinion, stating he sees value in this rule.

Details: Čeferin noted that if two teams owned by the same person compete and the underdog defeats the champion, the outcome may be questioned. This is why a ban is important to maintain the competition’s fairness.

Quote: “This is one of the challenges we face regularly. A complete ban could push investors out of football. However, allowing two clubs with the same owner to compete is not acceptable, as it undermines the competition’s credibility. Football can have surprises, but if a team owned by one person defeats the champion, people may doubt its fairness.

We deal with such situations individually. Currently, we use a ‘blind trust’ to limit the owner’s influence. However, we will not permit two clubs with the same main owner to enter the same competition, as it would devalue the tournament,” Čeferin explained in an interview with Politico.
