The first leg of the 2024-2025 Champions League quarter-finals took place on Wednesday (9/4) early morning IST. Arsenal beat Real Madrid 3-0 and Inter Milan won 2-1 against Bayern Munich.
Arsenal played really well against Real Madrid at their home stadium. In total, Arsenal had the ball 54% of the time and took 12 shots.
However, Arsenal struggled to get past Los Blancos’ defence. One example of this was in the first half. Two chances were saved by the goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
The home crowd finally got the goal they had been waiting for in the 58th minute. Declan Rice scored to make it 1-0 to the Gunners.
The goal came from Arsenal’s chance through a free kick. Although not too close, Declan Rice’s curling shot found the back of Madrid’s net.
Declan Rice scored again against Real Madrid in the 70th minute. Interestingly, the England midfielder repeated his goal-scoring feat via a free kick.
Just five minutes later, the Gunners were 3-0 up. This time, it was Mikel Merino who got on the scoresheet. The midfielder scored from inside the box, putting Madrid further behind.
The score stayed at 3-0 until the end of the game. Madrid will host the match on Thursday (17/4) as scheduled.
Meanwhile, Inter Milan won 2-1 against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena. This means Inter are now one step closer to the semi-finals.
Lautaro Martínez scored for Inter in the 38th minute. Receiving a pass from Marcus Thuram, the Argentina international striker fired with the outside of his foot.
Bayern Munich equalised in the 85th minute. Unmarked, Thomas Muller slid the ball in front of goal.
However, three minutes later, Bayern conceded again. Davide Frattesi started the attack, receiving a pass from the left side of Bayern’s defence. The score changed to 2-1, with Inter now in the lead.
Inter stayed in the lead right until the end of the game. Inter will have a chance in the second leg, which will take place at the San Siro on Thursday (17/4).
