Chelsea is considering Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs as a potential upgrade for their squad this summer.
Since joining Sunderland from NEC Nijmegen for around £9 million last summer, Roefs has stood out during the team’s impressive season post-promotion.
He has achieved eight clean sheets in the Premier League and ranks fourth in saves and third in save percentage at 72.2%.
Chelsea is not the only club interested; they are one of several teams looking into Roefs. Robert Sanchez has not fully convinced as the first-choice keeper, and Filip Jorgensen has also struggled to make his mark.
Roefs is viewed as a proven upgrade over both players, but reports suggest that any offer would need to be around £60 million. Liverpool is also keeping an eye on Roefs, especially with uncertainty surrounding Alisson’s future.
Chelsea has Mike Penders on loan at Strasbourg, and they will decide whether to sign a new goalkeeper or give the 20-year-old a chance in pre-season.
Sunderland is open to significant offers for their top players. The club may need to sell key players this summer after heavy spending upon promotion, and Roefs would provide an immediate profit.
