Chelsea Faces £5M Penalty if Jadon Sancho Transfer Falls Through

Chelsea must pay compensation of 5 million pounds or around 6.5 million US dollars to Manchester United if they choose not to make Jadon Sancho’s transfer permanent this summer.

According to ESPN, Sancho is currently on loan at Stamford Bridge with a £25 million obligation to buy clause if Chelsea finish higher than 14th in the Premier League.

With Chelsea currently in fourth place and only nine games remaining, that requirement is almost certain to be met.

However, there is a clause that allows Chelsea to return Sancho to Old Trafford on condition of paying a £5 million penalty.

However, sources within Chelsea have dismissed the possibility of Sancho returning to Manchester United. However, the 24-year-old has struggled to nail down a regular place in Enzo Maresca’s squad this season.

Sancho has scored just two goals in 28 appearances for Chelsea, with his last coming in a 4-3 win over Tottenham in December.

Meanwhile, a Manchester United source said they are not too worried about Sancho’s situation. If he returns, Sancho could be an additional burden for the club who are also trying to sell Antony and Marcus Rashford.

Both Anthony and Rashford are currently on loan at Real Betis and Aston Villa after manager Ruben Amorim agreed to the moves in January. Amorim has not worked with Sancho, as the player was on loan before he was appointed to replace Erik ten Hag in November.

According to the same source, Amorim will have the final say on Sancho’s future if he returns to United. However, the most likely scenario remains a permanent sale in the summer.
