Chelsea sign Jorrel Hato for €40 million

Chelsea have made their eighth signing. Since the start of the summer, they have already spent over €243 million on Jamie Gittens (€64 million), João Pedro (€63 million), Liam Delap (€35 million), Estêvão (€34 million), Dario Essugo (€22 million) and Mamadou Sarr (€15 million). The Blues were keen to sign a new central defender, as Axel Disasi and Renato Veiga are expected to leave this summer, while Benoît Badiashile and Wesley Fofana have often been plagued by injuries.5 million), Estêvão (€34 million), Dario Essugo (€22 million), Mamadou Sarr (€15 million) and Kendry Páez (€10 million). The Blues were keen to sign a new central defender, as Axel Disasi and Renato Veiga are expected to leave this summer and Benoît Badiashile and Wesley Fofana have often struggled with injuries.

The Londoners then targeted the promising Ajax Amsterdam talent: Jorrel Hato (19). Chelsea and Ajax Amsterdam quickly reached a total agreement around a 40 million euro transfer, while the Blues had already found common ground with the player’s entourage. Hato signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea, which will run until June 2032, as confirmed in the Blues’ press release.

Chelsea has strengthened its central defence.

“Chelsea is pleased to announce the signing of Dutch international Jorrel Hato from Ajax. The 19-year-old defender has signed a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge until 2032, and will join his new teammates this week,” said Chelsea. A six-time Dutch international, Hato is versatile and also feels comfortable playing on the left flank.

This is a good signing for Enzo Maresca, who was looking to strengthen his defensive line. The 19-year-old Dutchman has already captained Ajax and played 111 matches (scoring four goals) for his youth club. ‘I’m very excited and happy to be here. I’ve thought a lot about my future, and I’m ready to take the next step in my career. Chelsea is the best place for that, so I’m very happy,” he told the club’s official website.
