Chelsea usually has the edge in transfer deals, but losing a talent like Ngumoha without any compensation was a rare mistake.
They are now keeping an eye on three players from Liverpool‘s academy to correct that oversight.
Lewis Steele from the Daily Mail reports ongoing frustration about the situation.
“The Chelsea situation is noteworthy, as Liverpool took Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea 18 months ago,” he stated.
“Chelsea are upset; they’ve banned Liverpool scouts from Cobham. Someone mentioned that Chelsea might make a significant move to counter Liverpool’s actions.”
“Josh Abe tops their list, along with another player who debuted in the UEFA youth league last week. There are three names on Chelsea’s radar.”
Chelsea has been concentrating more on youth development lately. It wouldn’t be surprising if one or more of these young Liverpool prospects end up in London soon.
However, the same factors that led Ngumoha to Liverpool could pose challenges again.
Steele added, “Liverpool knows Chelsea can offer £20k a week, but they maintain a wage structure. While Chelsea seeks revenge, Liverpool is reminding these youngsters about who has made the first team in the past five years.”
This raises an important question. Despite efforts in recruitment and youth development, few young players have secured regular first-team spots at Chelsea under the current management.
While Liverpool recently secured the Premier League title, they are in a phase of transformation.
With Jurgen Klopp moving on, Arne Slot is beginning to make his mark, which may lead to some key players leaving.
Curtis Jones, Cody Gakpo, and Ibrahima Konate are potential candidates for departure, and any of them could fit well into Enzo Maresca’s plans at Chelsea.
If Chelsea decides to enhance their youth recruitment strategy, they must be confident in the long-term potential of these players before making a decision.
