Axel Disasi has spoken out about his time away from the Chelsea squad before moving to West Ham United on loan in January.

The center-back was not included in the Premier League squad by former head coach Enzo Maresca.

Disasi did not play until February, after he joined the Hammers.

Chelsea’s Axel Disasi might face consequences if he shares details about his time away

“If I share everything, I could get in trouble, but it was tough. Watching games on TV every weekend was hard,” he said after helping West Ham reach the FA Cup quarter-finals with a penalty shootout win over Brentford.

“I just kept working, waiting for my chance, and now I’m enjoying it because I know what it’s like to watch from the sidelines.

“I learned to be patient and stay professional, even under challenging circumstances. My family helped me stay in shape.

“I try to enjoy every moment because I know it’s not guaranteed.”

Since Disasi joined, West Ham has only lost one game in their last five Premier League matches.

“Being on the pitch now is wonderful,” he added. “All players want to play. Before, that wasn’t my case, but I’m enjoying being on the field.

“I’ve found a very friendly atmosphere here, and I really like it.

“He [Nuno Espirito Santo] convinced me by playing me. That’s what I needed.

“I’m playing in my position now, which I missed last season when I was out of position. He allows me to express myself, and I’m happy about that. I hope to keep this going.”
