U.S. Soccer and Chicago Fire FC have announced that the team will play against Detroit City FC (USL Championship) in the Round of 32 of the 2026 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The match is set for 6:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday, April 14 at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck, Michigan. Fans can watch the game live on CBS Sports Golazo Network and Paramount+.

Chicago is among 16 Major League Soccer teams taking part in the 2026 tournament and was named one of the eight away teams ahead of the competition. Fans can register for updates about the Open Cup, including ticket information.

This marks the second consecutive year that Chicago will compete against Detroit City FC in the Round of 32, following a 4-0 victory for Chicago in the 2025 tournament. Detroit reached the Round of 32 in 2026 after winning 1-0 against the Flint City Bucks. Forward Alex Dalou scored his second goal in as many Open Cup matches, leading Detroit to its third straight win against the Bucks and its third trip to the Round of 32 in five years.

Chicago Fire has a notable history in the U.S. Open Cup. The team has won the cup four times (1998, 2000, 2003, 2006), which is the most titles for any MLS team. Chicago also holds the record for the most wins and semifinal appearances in this annual tournament.
