Orlando Pirates player Relebohile Mofokeng has sustained an injury following the club’s 1-0 victory against Siwelele FC in the Carling Knockout last Saturday.

This injury has led the 20-year-old to withdraw from Bafana Bafana’s squad for upcoming matches against Zimbabwe and Rwanda.

In his absence, coach Hugo Broos has selected Kaizer Chiefs’ midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala, 21, who has one goal in 10 games.

“We had to replace Rele Mofokeng because of the injury he sustained on Saturday,” Broos informed the media during a press conference on Monday at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto.

South Africa, currently sharing 14 points with Benin in the hunt for a spot in the FIFA 2026 World Cup, will meet Zimbabwe on October 10 in Durban and Rwanda on October 14 in Mbombela.
