Liverpool is celebrating Christmas at the top of the Premier League.

Since Arne Slot took over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer, the team has started strongly. Liverpool has lost only one match this season and has a four-point lead in the title race, having played one game less than their closest rivals.

This is the ideal spot for any team, but can Liverpool maintain their lead to win the Premier League?

Historically, only half of the teams that topped the league on December 25th went on to become champions. Liverpool has only clinched the title once while being in first place during the Christmas season, despite being at the top six times in the past.

The lowest finish for any team leading the table at Christmas is sixth, which happened to Aston Villa. They fell out of European contention and finished 24 points behind the champions, Manchester United.
