Chelsea’s academy keeps producing skilled players, but the club has not always utilized them fully.

As a result, they have let several noteworthy players slip away, including one who made a significant impression on Cole Palmer.

This player, a winger, left the club for a surprisingly low fee.

Callum Hudson-Odoi, once a standout prospect from the academy, left Stamford Bridge for just £3 million.

He was highly regarded after impressive performances in the youth teams.

Palmer acknowledged this in a 2020 interview with Rising Ballers, where he listed Hudson-Odoi among the best players he faced, alongside Ansu Fati and Brian Brobbey.

The forward later went on loan to Bayer Leverkusen in hopes of rejoining Chelsea, but that did not result in a permanent move.

Wingers starting to excel at Chelsea

Since Hudson-Odoi’s departure in 2023, Chelsea has tried various players on the wings without finding a consistent lineup.

Currently, though, they are achieving better stability and output from these positions. Estevao Willian and Pedro Neto are competing well for the starting role on the right, contributing regularly.

On the left, Jamie Gittens is working to hit his stride at Stamford Bridge, while Alejandro Garnacho is beginning to adjust after a challenging summer transfer from Manchester United.
