Sean Dyche stated it would have been “ridiculous” if Arsenal had received a penalty against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday night.

Ola Aina seemed to handle the ball in the box after it hit his shoulder, but VAR determined that his arm was in a natural position.

The home team felt they should have had a penalty earlier when Callum Hudson-Odoi was fouled by Jurrien Timber, but a quick VAR review indicated the initial contact occurred outside the box.

In the end, Forest and Arsenal finished the match in a goalless draw.

Sean Dyche: Cancel football if that Arsenal penalty is given

“If these types of penalties start being given, we all need to reconsider,” Dyche explained to TNT Sports after the match. “I find it ridiculous. We must be cautious with these calls.

“I thought you were going to mention our penalty claim in the first half. Right at the edge of the box, they ruled it’s outside. The player was already in full motion, he gets pulled before he enters the box; he would have made it.

“You might as well cancel football if that handball by Ola Aina is given. The rules should be reconsidered. They should focus on players feigning injury. That’s the new diving. I wouldn’t be concerned about handballs. Cancel football if that handball is considered.”
